My book came out last week! She’s Nice Though! My book? Oh, it came out last week. I love her, and I hope you do, too. So much so that I am gonna do a lil She’s Nice Though-themed giveaway for paid subscribers of this newsletter. I am Tyra Banks screaming about giving her audience vajazzled jars of Vaseline.
If you upgrade to a paid subscription by September 30 (or already have a paid subscription to Cake for Breakfast), you’ll have the chance to win a delicious little mailer. It’ll include a signed copy of She’s Nice Though, a cutie little “nice for what?” pin, and a bunch of other goodies, including some I’ve previously mentioned in this newsletter. Winners will be notified when I want to and feel like it. (At the end of this month.) Okay, let’s eat.
Something I Ate with My Mouth
If you live near Kansas City, I implore you to run, sprint, sashay to Cafe Cà Phê. It’s a Vietnamese coffeeshop in Columbus Park, and it is heaven on earth. They have an ube latte for which I would commit several misdemeanors. They also allow dogs which means Ava has found yet another business to terrorize with her desperate pleas for someone, anyone to pet her until they die.
If you don’t live near Kansas City, please heed the advice of Nick “So I did *a thing*” Jonas and buy a cake from the grocery store. You can say it’s for my book birthday and my actual birthday, which happens to be today. Virgos, assemble!
Something I Ate with My Eyes
It’s time I address the rumors: Yes, I did watch all of Selling the O.C. in one (1) day. It was for my JOB, okay? Marathoning eight hours of television in a single sitting is not a cry for help; it is career development. Shh, mommy’s working! I wrote about Selling the O.C. for last week’s I Can’t Shut Up About, my column with the Cut. If you miss Laguna Beach, have a penchant for innocuous workplace drama, and need a reminder that there are too many people with too much money, this show is for you.
Some Things I Made for You to Eat
This ode to big-ass sunglasses for the Cut’s fall fashion issue. Being dumb is chic!
This She’s Nice Though playlist on Spotify. There’s a song for each chapter. Some of them are obvious — the essay “Nice for What” is, of course, “Nice for What” by Drake — some are a bit more obscure, and the rest are a fun, little joke for the girls who get it.
Oh, and, what’s this? Ah, yes, my book She’s Nice Though. If you’d like to try before you by (perv) check out excerpts from the book in the Cut, Cosmo, and Lit Hub. I’ve also talked about the essay collection with Poets & Writers magazine, Writer’s Digest, Shondaland, and NPR’s All Things Considered. Me! A thing that is considered!
Stay hungry, lil guy!
